As a Beach Safety Warden, you'll play an important role in helping keep Somerset's coastline safe, clean and welcoming for the thousands of residents and visitors who enjoy our beaches each year.
This is a varied and active seasonal opportunity, ideal for students, those seeking summer work, or anyone looking to gain valuable experience in a public-facing role. Working at Brean and Berrow beaches, you'll be part of a friendly team helping people enjoy Somerset's beautiful coastline safely throughout the busy holiday season.
Role Summary
The Beach Safety Warden supports the safe and effective operation of Somerset's beaches during the busy summer season. Acting as a visible presence on the coastline, you will provide advice and assistance to visitors, help maintain clean and welcoming beach environments, and support the delivery of day-to-day beach services. Through your work, you will help create a positive and safe experience for everyone visiting Somerset's coastal areas.

What You'll Do - Key Responsibilities
- Provide information, guidance and support to beach users, promoting safe enjoyment of the coastline.
- Carry out routine patrols and inspections, reporting concerns and helping maintain a safe environment.
- Support the cleanliness and presentation of beach areas through litter collection and site monitoring.
- Assist with parking management, visitor enquiries and the day-to-day operation of beach facilities.
- Provide support during incidents, busy periods and special events, including administering first aid where required.

- Flexible and available to work weekends, bank holidays and throughout the summer season.

About The Team
Somerset Council's Beach Services team works to ensure the coastline remains safe, clean and welcoming for everyone. Working across some of Somerset's most popular beaches, the team plays a vital role in supporting visitors, protecting the local environment and helping deliver a positive experience for coastal communities and tourists alike.
Additional Information
- Zero Hours Contract
- Seasonal role running from July to October 2026
- Based at Brean and Berrow beaches
- Various shift patterns available
- Weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required
- An excellent opportunity for students, seasonal workers and individuals seeking flexible summer employment
