Bed Manager - Cancer Care

Bed Manager (Cancer Care) – Oncology & Haematology

Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our Bed Management team in a fast-paced role integral to supporting operational delivery of elective and emergency pathways for patients requiring admissions to Oncology & Haematology.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised individual with excellent communication skills and a keen eye for problem-solving to manage bed availability across the Cancer Care inpatient wards and Acute Oncology Service, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient flow efficiently.

This is a 7-day service (07:30–20:00) with 12.5-hour shifts, including a 1-hour break. Staff must be dynamically flexible in supporting high-pressure, ever-changing clinical needs.

Main Duties

  • Coordinate all admissions and transfers for Cancer Care at UHS and external hospitals.
  • Maintain an up-to-date bed availability system to manage demand fluctuations, clinical priorities, and emergency admissions efficiently and effectively.
  • Attend daily Care Group Huddles (08:10) via Teams to report current bed status, admissions, and discharges.
  • Participate in site coordinator bed meetings and other essential multidisciplinary gatherings.
  • Process service referrals and update the elective admissions weekly list.
  • Optimise bed utilisation within Oncology & Haematology pathways.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
