About the Role
At SSE Smart Buildings, we’re expanding our BMS (Building Management Systems) Support Team to drive innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. As a Smart Buildings Support Engineer, you’ll apply your expertise to predictive preventive maintenance (PPM), energy optimisation, and technological advancements—helping us deliver a smarter, greener future for businesses and communities.

Key Responsibilities
Preventative & Reactive Support
- Execute scheduled BMS maintenance, minor upgrades, and system modifications to improve efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve reactive breakdowns, including out-of-hours emergency callouts as required.
- Maintain 24/7 operational resilience for buildings across the North East.
Drive Innovation
- Propose system enhancements, hardware/software updates to maximise energy performance.
- Conduct data analysis and reporting on routine inspections, optimising energy consumption and reducing costs.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to co-ordinate works effectively.
- Provide technical guidance to end-users, ensuring compliance with safety/codes.
Essential Requirements
✅ Technical Expertise
- Proven experience with:
- Siemens (S7, Apogee), Trend, or Tridium BMS platforms
- HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) systems configurations (Note: Full training for Siemens Apogee offered if role experience is transferable.)
✅ Customer Focus
- Strong customer service mindset with a proactive problem-solving approach.
- Ability to build trust through clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
✅ Practical & Adaptive Skills
- On-call availability for shifts outside core hours.
- Full UK driving licence for fieldwork (when based in regions/applicable).
- Comfort with fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
✅ Soft & Technical Blend
- Analytical + creative thinking to drive continuous improvement.
- Willingness to upskill in data analytics, AI-driven BMS trends (future-ready opportunities).
Desirable (Nice-to-Haves)
- Prior experience in waste heat recovery systems or onsite renewable energy integration.
- Familiarity with IoT applications in smart buildings. -Written or oral skills in customer safety narratives, where BEMS disciplinary procedures are included.
