BESS Technical Specialist
London, UK (hybrid)
Mint Selection have partnered with one of the UK's leading Independent Power Producers who are developing and building cutting-edge large scale Energy Storage projects across Europe.
Role:
Reporting to the Technical Director, the Battery Technical Specialist will be part of a team responsible for evaluating, selecting and implementing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into grid scale energy storage projects across Europe.
Level:
Senior to Principal level, subject to experience.
The Company
Our client are a renewable infrastructure investor focused on developing and managing clean energy and energy storage assets, with ambitions to support decarbonisation through a diversified portfolio of energy-transition investments.
Key Responsibilities
- Market intelligence and supplier evaluation of BESS Suppliers
- Sizing and selection of BESS - technical definition / sizing
- Compliance with market requirements
- Understanding of policy, standards and grid code requirements as they relate to BESS
- Capacity maintenance optimisation
- Augmentation strategies
- Tendering for Battery Energy Storage suppliers
- Drafting and managing tenders for BESS projects
- Drafting and negotiation of technical specifications for BESS contracts, including specification, document requirements, performance warranties and associated testing
- Specifying and witnessing Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance testing for BESS
- Evaluation of tender returns and managing internal review processes
- Automation, through AI or other methods, of the BESS evaluation and selection process
- Support the handover of the project to the project delivery team and provide high level technical support during project delivery
- Evaluation of BESS performance in operation and delivery and feeding performance back into BESS supplier evaluation
- Design Development of future projects
- Support the Technical Director in developing designs and specifications and evaluating contractors for future battery and hydrogen-ready gas peaking plants

Experience
- Experience in techno-economic supplier evaluation
- Experience in working with Chinese suppliers preferable
- Experience in selection or delivery of BESS projects or equivalent
