South Coast Nursing Homes is an established and successful, family owned and managed, care home company based in Worthing, West Sussex.
We currently operate 9 homes across East and West Sussex. Each registered home offers the highest standards of resident care and comfort, 24 hours – day and night, for long and short-term stays.
This position is for a Beverage Assistant at our Dementia Specialist Nursing Home, Berkeley Lodge in Worthing.
Working Hours
Saturday and Sunday every other week.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Manager, this role is an integral part of our resident’s day. Amongst other duties, you will be preparing and serving hot and cold drinks. You must be happy working alone and able to think on your feet! Basic catering knowledge and food hygiene will certainly be beneficial in this role, however for the best candidate, full training will be provided. It’s all about you as a person – warm and welcoming, self-driven and productive but above all, caring – it’s what we do!
Job Responsibilities
- Serving of hot and cold drinks to Residents morning and afternoon in all areas of the home.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with all Residents, family and visitors and colleagues.
- Recording all fluids intake on Nourish.
- Checking sell by dates on consumable held within the kitchenette.
- Ensuring kitchenette areas are fully stocked with cups, beakers, cutlery, etc.
- Helping and assisting during lunch time.
- Laying tables in the dining room.
- Recording of fridge temperatures in the kitchenette/dining room.
- Cleaning the kitchenette and emptying bins.
- Completing all cleaning schedules.

Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential:
- A real people person – warm, friendly and welcoming. You will have an empathetic nature and use this to good effect.
- Excellent communication skills will be required. The ability to effectively communicate with everyone – our residents, families, visitors, colleagues and our directors.
- You will need to be confident and have experience in working under pressure when dealing with people – able to prioritise your duties without supervision. Time Management skills will be key.
- Some experience in a catering setting would certainly be an advantage in your application – as you will understand the service proposition and standards required.
- Team player, self-motivated, proactive and flexible.
Desirable:
- Knowledge and skills in basic food prep will be important.
- Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification would be advantageous, as you will be required to do some basic food prep, but full training is provided.
- A catering background – coffee shop, restaurant front of house etc.
- Have some experience of working under pressure when dealing with the general public.

We are looking for someone who is:

- Good communication skills and the ability to get on with people at all levels from Director downwards.
- A problem solver and solution provider as well as being a quick learner.
