About the Role
An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist (Band 7) to join the Psychosocial Intervention Team within the SPA Support Service.
Reporting to the Service Clinical Lead (Psychologists) and working in collaboration with both clinical and operational leads, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to their patients, taking a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assessment, Formulation & Intervention:
- Conduct dynamic clinical assessments,undertake evidence-based psychological formulations, design and deliver appropriate interventions to facilitate patient recovery and recovery rehab across a range of psychosocial needs
- Work within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide high quality psychosocial care to patients of all ages, their families and carers – including challenging situations with the aim of supporting a psychosocial improvement in patients’ quality of life, health outcomes and recovery.
• Collaboration and Clinical Leadership:
- Work independently or as a member of a team with clearly defined roles for different professions across areas of clinical, operational and patient safety adjustment (PSA)
- Engage with other psychosocial disciplines, service teams and allied departments (such as behavioural psychology, occupational therapy, psychology and clinical psychology trainees) to achieve the best possible outcomes.

• Patient Safety and Governance:
- Support patients and families with the impact of having a deadly disease and dying
- Provide necessary support to patients, families and carers in the Emergency Department and areas on the Patient Safety & Adjustment Team and the Acute Care for the Elderly admissions to the myastenia graves, paramalignant syndrome and deterioration approaches
• Consumer Focus & Intervention:
- Demonstrate respect for equality and diversity at all levels. Appreciate the knowledge, challenges and ambitions of different patient care providers through adoption of best practice above patient safety adjustment across all services.
Who We’re Looking For:
As part of the Health and Social Care Northern Ireland organisation, successful candidates in this role will need to meet the following professional and personal requirements:
• This role is open to psychologists who are registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) (in the Psychologist Register), and those who are reputable, professional, organised and skilled in undertaking psychologically informed work.
• Experience of working in acutely ill hospital care may be advantageous, as proposed focuses of the team will span multiple clinical and experimental academic areas.
• They should be able to demonstrate expertise in holistic patient care, including designing and evaluating psychosocial approaches which can influence healthy lifestyles or necessary interventions.
