Clinical Psychologist (Post-doctoral Training Complete) – Band 8a – Permanent
Location: Knockbracken Clinic, Belfast, NI
Salary: £55,690 – £62,682 (band 8a, NI HSC)
About the Role
We are seeking a post-doctoral Clinical Psychologist to deliver high-quality psychological therapy services within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment in Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (HSCT). This is a permanent post focusing on adult mental health.
The post carries a variety of responsibilities, reflecting the second tier of clinical psychological practice, including:
- Direct social work, health, social, or housing and community care with Clients and professionals
- participation in supervision, team and research meetings
- Providing supervision to clinical psychologists in training, or standalone professionals
- taking part in joint meetings with team leaders and/or members of a professional team.
Responsibilities
This post will involve:
- Assessment, Diagnosis & Therapy:
- Conducting comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnosis, and formulation using psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural, and global integrated approaches
- Running individual and group-based psychological interventions, including CBT, amongst others, in line with NICE guidelines and evidence-based practice
- Providing treatment for conditions such as anxiety (GAD, panic, etc.), trauma, depression, eating disorders, chronic illness, and vocational stress reactions
- Delivering interventions such as CISD/CIBR and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for barriers to return to work

Leadership and Training:
- Supervising and mentoring trainee psychologists and supporting junior staff in delivering quality care
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team (doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, etc.) to ensure holistic patient care

Research & Quality Improvement:
- Maintaining continuity of clinical excellence through research and audit participation
- Engaging with clinical governance processes and contributing to best practice service delivery

Flexible Working & Innovative Practice:
- Safeguarding an approach that embraces flexible working arrangements where appropriate for the role
Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:
- A Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) status from the British Psychological Society (BPS)
- Post-doctoral clinical psychology training completed, with preference for those registered with the HCPC
- Recent clinical experience (preferably within mental health services) with proven ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective engagement with sensitive and vulnerable clients

Professional Competencies:
- Able to deliver CBT and Trauma therapy within the public health sector
- Adherence to NICE guidelines and local protocols
- Basic IT skills and familiarity with NICE scores, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5), and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11)
