BHSCT Histopathology & Mortuary Discipline Manager Band 8A

Histopathology Technician (Scottish Ministerial Band 8a) Location: Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (HSCT), Institute of Pathology Salary: Band 8a (£55,690 – £62,682 per annum) Contract Type: Permanent Opening Date: 26/06/2026 | Closing Date: Friday, 10 July 2026 @ 4:30 PM Interview Dates: To Be Advised (TBC)


About the Role

A paid Administrative post develops, advances and instigates technical and team based skills and knowledge to tertiary standard. The role will include responsibility for quality assurance and the development of the technologist resource through project management/ mentorship/peer aid.

Responsibilities will be underpinned by critical analysis, appropriate delegation and personal/professional confidence in technical practical laboratory services. Effective communication with service providers/partners is essential. You will operate effectively as part of a production team (ca 50 staff) in a full service lab. Lab services include histopathology, cytopathology, clinical 의하여_datetimeanchemichemistry, bacteriology & virology, serology & flow cytometry.

The Role

This is an Administrative and Technical role in a full service lab based at the Institute of Pathology Belfast with immediate indemnity of band 7.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision of histopathology technologists and laboratory team in accordance with the lab operations policy
  • Training and guidance of junior colleagues in accordance with competency-based development plans and laboratory quality manuals – LAT approval may be required
  • Terminology & terminology changes will be provided within a clear SPOC
  • As part of the team remaining in Belfast in the event of a restructure, the successful applicant will function across several representations of the specifications of the whole Histopathology team including ancillary histotechnology (anest unorimonieandpreparation)
  • Participate in the quality management system (corresponding to internal/external regulatory demands & testing)
  • Liaise with all Partnerships, external services and representatives of the Pathology service in the Wider Belfast and wider NI Regions and NI CBS Part III Partnership representatives as required for the delivery of the service effectively in line with clinical and regulatory values.

This Role requires:

**#### ###Education, Training &/or Experience Qualification

Essential

  • Minimum of a Knowledge Assessment Assessment Criterion (KASAC) level 9 in histopathology morphology, evidence where referred to
    • Statistics be saved / proof of requisite education / competence may be required
  • Essential to achieve LAT (Local Appraisal Training) as part of the position
  • Qualifications may be substituted with relevant experience at management, in-service competency maintenance, appraisal, or evidence of relevant experience in a complete locality as deemed acceptable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pathology and laboratory operations (offices, liaising with NHS representatives, laboratory communications)
  • Understanding of Health and Social Care Trust operations, service delivery administration, strategic array responses

Experience & Skills

  • Essential
    • Previous service to band 7/8+ (registration relevant)
    • Capacity to manage a large multidisciplinary team with experience outside of direct support function(s)
    • Ability to support eLearning, teaching away hand releasing (CQC Reformed Competency Rules)
    • Conditions assessment of (local and national) service provision
    • Experience of prioritising tasks, task management and responding to complex demands with clear due-diligence message
    • Flexibility to work away from local zone responsibilities
