Role Overview
Job Title: Critical Care Nurse (Band 8b)
We are seeking to appoint a skilled and compassionate Critical Care Nurse to join our dedicated team at Mater Hospital. This is a permanent post on Band 8b, offering a starting salary of £64,455–£74,896 per annum.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring excellence in clinical practice.
- Work collaboratively alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centred care.
- Monitor and respond to life-threatening situations with compassion, competence, and professionalism.
- Contribute to safety protocols, infection control, and best practice guidelines.
- Support in patient education, increasing their knowledge of their health condition and self-management.
- Lead innovation around workflow efficiency and clinical decision-making.
Person Specification – Requirements
Educational Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Critical Care qualification/postgraduate training outlining current standard in critical care (or aspiration to undertake).

Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an intensive care or similar high-acuity environment required.
- Proven ability to provide calm leadership in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication skills, able to liaise effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to NMC codes of conduct.
- Strong proficiencies in IT systems and documentation.
