Role Overview

We are seeking a hands on, delivery focused Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to design, build, and maintain dashboards, reports, and self service analytics within JD Group. Reporting to a Business Intelligence Area Lead, you will play a key role in delivering high quality BI products that enable effective decision making across the business.

You will work closely with BI colleagues, business stakeholders, Data Engineering, and Data Science & AI teams to ensure BI solutions are built on trusted data, follow enterprise standards, and are intuitive, performant, and widely adopted.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys translating data into insight and takes pride in quality, usability, and clarity.

Responsibilities

BI Delivery

  • Design, build, test, and maintain dashboards, reports, and self service analytics solutions aligned to business requirements
  • Deliver high quality BI outputs using shared semantic layers and governed datasets
  • Work from defined backlogs and requirements, contributing estimates, technical input, and delivery plans
  • Take ownership of assigned BI deliverables, ensuring they are accurate, performant, and user friendly
  • Support incremental delivery and continuous improvement of BI products

BI Design & Best Practice

  • Apply best practice in data visualisation, storytelling, accessibility, and user experience
  • Ensure dashboards and reports are consistent, intuitive, and aligned to enterprise BI standards
  • Optimise BI solutions for performance and scalability
  • Contribute to the development and reuse of standard dashboard patterns, templates, and components
  • Actively identify and reduce technical debt, usability issues, and performance risks in owned BI assets

Data Quality, Governance & Operations

  • Validate data accuracy and consistency within dashboards and reports
  • Ensure BI outputs comply with data governance, security, and access control standards
  • Maintain clear documentation for dashboards, reports, and semantic models
  • Support monitoring, incident investigation, and resolution of BI related issues
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in BI reliability and trust

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to clarify requirements and validate outputs
  • Partner with Data Engineering to ensure BI products are built on robust, well modelled, and governed data assets
  • Collaborate with Data Science & AI teams to support visualisation of advanced analytics outputs where required
  • Communicate progress, risks, and design decisions clearly to your Area Lead and wider team
  • Participate constructively in team ceremonies, design reviews, and peer reviews

Learning & Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously develop BI, data modelling, and visualisation skills
  • Learn and adopt new BI tools, features, and patterns as agreed within the BI function
  • Build understanding of the business domain and how insight supports decision making
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and learnings with the wider BI community
  • Support junior BI developers where appropriate

  • Timely, high quality delivery of assigned BI outputs
  • Accurate, performant, and well adopted dashboards and reports
  • Improved trust and confidence in BI outputs among business users
  • Reduced BI defects, rework, and incidents
  • Positive feedback from stakeholders and peers
  • Consistent adherence to enterprise BI standards and best practices

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in a Business Intelligence role
  • Hands on experience with modern BI tools, particularly Power BI and/or Looker
  • Solid working knowledge of SQL and analytics data modelling concepts
  • Experience building dashboards and reports on shared semantic layers or curated datasets
  • Strong understanding of data visualisation best practices and UX principles
  • Experience working with governed data and enterprise BI standards
  • Ability to deliver well scoped BI work independently and to a high standard
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality
