BI Developer – Bristol, Full-Time, ASAP
At Cooper Moss Rutland (CMR), we are a leading construction consultancy delivering project controls, project management, and commercial services across some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile programmes. We are seeking a BI Developer to join our growing Project Controls team, specialising in data-driven decision support for major capital programmes across infrastructure and energy sectors.
This is an ideal entry-level role for an early-career BI professional to develop technical expertise while collaborating with experienced specialists on nationally significant projects.
About the Role
You’ll thrive in a collaborative central Project Controls function, developing dashboards, reports, and data visualisations that empower project teams and stakeholders to make informed strategic decisions. The role blends Business Intelligence, analytics, and project management, offering exposure to complex programme data and opportunities to enhance reporting standards, automation, and business intelligence across high-profile construction programmes.

What You’ll Do
Core Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Business Intelligence dashboards (primarily in Power BI) for project performance tracking.
- Create clear and engaging visualisations for cost, schedule, and programme reporting.
- Analyse project data to identify key trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Support reporting automation and data efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with Project Controls teams (planners, cost engineers, PMs, and client stakeholders) to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Assist in data validation, cleansing, and compliance with governance frameworks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting standards and data governance policies.
Requirements
Essential
- Experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Reporting roles (application development, dashboarding, or similar).
- Proficient in Power BI (able to design and implement dashboards).
- Strong SQL skills, including experience with structured datasets.
- Knowledge of data modelling and reporting best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills – must articulate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Working proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.

Desirable (Plus Factors)
- Experience in Project Controls, Cost Management, or Planning environments.
- Industry exposure in construction, infrastructure, energy, nuclear, or engineering sectors.
- Previous experience in consultancy or client-facing roles.
- Familiarity with earned value management and programme performance reporting concepts.
- Expertise in Power Query, DAX, and data transformation techniques.
- Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, EcoSys, Oracle, or SAP.

Additional Requirements
- Full right to work in the UK.
- Willingness to travel to client sites (including London and other UK locations as needed).
- Ability (or eligibility) to attain security clearance where required.
