Location: Plymouth - Full-Time Permanent

The Role - Active Fire Safety Bid Estimator
We are looking for an experienced Active Fire Safety Bid Estimator to join our Plymouth-based team. This role is responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and compliant cost estimates for fire protection projects, while bringing critical insight from active fire safety maintenance experience.
Active fire safety maintenance experience is a NON-NEGOTIABLE requirement for this role and must be clearly demonstrated.
You will support sales, pre-construction, and fire safety delivery teams, ensuring all estimates align with fire safety regulations, Building Regulations Part B, and British Standards, while integrating knowledge from active fire systems maintenance such as fire alarms, emergency lighting, and suppression systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply active fire safety maintenance experience to inform realistic pricing and project delivery
- Review drawings, specifications, and BOQs
- Conduct quantity take-offs and cost modelling
- Support tenders, bids, and fire safety proposals
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors for competitive pricing
- Ensure all estimates comply with:
- Building Regulations Part B
- Fire safety legislation and British Standards
- Identify technical risks, compliance gaps, and scope issues
- Collaborate with sales teams, engineers, and operational delivery teams

Skills
- Strong estimating and cost planning skills (construction / fire protection)
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and fire safety specifications
- Advanced Excel and estimating software capability
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills
- Ability to manage multiple tenders in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication across sales, fire safety, and operational teams
- Ability to apply active fire safety maintenance experience to pricing decisions
Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of:
- Active fire safety systems (ESSENTIAL): fire alarms, emergency lighting, suppression systems, sprinkler systems
- Active fire safety maintenance and compliance requirements (ESSENTIAL)
- Building Regulations Part B and British Standards
- Fire safety compliance within construction projects
- Understanding of:
- Fire safety legislation
- Compartmentation principles
- Knowledge of FIRAS / BM TRADA (desirable)
Experience
- ESSENTIAL: Active Fire Safety Maintenance Experience
- You must have:
- Proven hands-on or technical experience in active fire safety maintenance (fire alarms, emergency lighting, suppression systems, servicing, inspection, compliance)
- Experience in Fire safety / fire protection / construction environments
- Experience working with Drawings, Specifications & Tender packages
- Track record of working in deadline-driven environments
- Experience across Active fire safety maintenance AND passive fire protection
- Site survey / fire system inspection experience
- Cross-functional experience with sales and delivery teams
