At Balfour Beatty, we are looking for a Bid Manager to lead and co-ordinate the full bid lifecycle, helping us secure profitable work and deliver solutions that make a lasting difference for our customers, communities and industry.
In this role, you will be at the heart of our work winning activity, managing complex bids from strategy through to submission, presentation, and successful handover. You will work closely with senior leaders, customers, partners, consultants, supply chain specialists, and technical teams to develop competitive, compliant, and customer-focused proposals that reflect our expertise and ambition.
We are flexible on base location for this role, with office options available in London, Derby, Birmingham, and Warrington.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the development and delivery of bid strategies that support profitable growth and align with business priorities.
- Build strong, positive relationships with customers and their representatives to understand requirements, priorities, and opportunities.
- Manage bid budgets, programmes, governance documentation, and key submission deliverables.
- Co-ordinate input from technical, legal, commercial, financial, planning, sustainability, and supply chain teams to create clear and compelling bid content.
- Oversee customer presentations, tender settlement meetings, and approvals for major or multiple bids.
- Lead bid management processes, including clarification registers, document control, risk registers, meeting records, and tender settlement documentation.
- Gather customer and competitor intelligence, including SWOT analysis, to strengthen our offer.
- Support innovation within bids, including digital toolsets, BIM, 5D cost planning, and submissions technology as relevant.
- Lead the handover of secured work to delivery teams, ensuring a smooth transition from bid to project mobilisation.
- Champion Balfour Beatty’s values, particularly a relentless focus on Zero Harm, sustainability, and doing the right thing.

Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines strong bid management experience with the confidence to influence, challenge, and bring diverse teams together under time pressure. You will be customer-focused, commercially aware, and able to turn complex requirements into high-quality, persuasive proposals.
- Experience managing bid services within construction, infrastructure, or engineering environments.
- A sound understanding of current procurement routes, including framework procurement.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong bid writing, IT, and numeracy skills, with attention to detail and a focus on quality.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain momentum across multiple workstreams.
- A proactive approach to innovation, continuous improvement, and customer intelligence.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE, MICE, or MIStructE would be desirable.
- A valid CSCS card is required.
- Knowledge of Lean Construction, BIM, best practice solutions, or 5D cost planning would be advantageous.
