The Opportunity

At Holcim UK, we’re building progress for people and the planet, and we’re looking for a Bid Writer to join our team. This is a key role within our commercial and bidding function, responsible for producing high-quality, winning submissions that support major infrastructure and construction projects across the UK.

As a Senior Bid Writer, you’ll play a critical role in shaping how we present our business to clients. You’ll combine technical understanding, strong writing capability and strategic thinking to deliver compelling pre-qualification and tender submissions that clearly demonstrate our value.

You’ll take ownership of the full submission lifecycle, from interpreting tender requirements and developing win strategies, through to producing high-quality documentation and conducting post-tender reviews. This is a highly visible role with real impact on business growth and project success.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Managing the production of pre-qualification and tender submissions for major bids
  • Reviewing tender documentation and developing clear strategies and win themes
  • Collaborating with Business unit Directors and Managers to align submissions with business objectives
  • Ensuring consistency and quality across all submission responses and documentation
  • Managing submission timelines and priorities to meet key deadlines
  • Producing high-quality written responses with strong attention to detail, clarity and presentation
  • Maintaining and improving submission content within internal knowledge systems
  • Mentoring and developing Submissions Coordinators to improve capability across the team
  • Identifying opportunities to improve and differentiate submissions from competitors
  • Leading post-submission reviews and tender debriefs to drive continuous improvement
  • Engaging with clients to gather feedback and strengthen future submissions
  • Conducting research into industry trends and incorporating insights into bid strategies
  • Travelling across the UK to support regional teams and project engagement where required

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience working in a bid, submissions or tendering environment within construction or infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and bid best practice
  • Excellent written communication skills with a high standard of English
  • Ability to translate technical information into clear, compelling submission content
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Experience of working on infrastructure projects (e.g. highways, civil engineering, Section 278 works, design & build contracts)
  • High attention to detail with strong proofreading and document formatting capability
  • Advanced IT skills, particularly across Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to mentor, coach and support development of junior team members
  • A proactive, creative and solution-focused mindset
