Big Data Senior Manager – Azure + DataBricks - Data Engineering & Platforms - £110k+ : 12month FTC

Senior Manager – Big Data Engineering & Platforms

Our client is seeking a technically credible and commercially astute Senior Manager – Big Data Engineering & Platforms to lead the engineering, operations, and strategic evolution of a large-scale enterprise data platform estate, with preference given to candidates skilled in the Azure and DataBricks tech stack.

About the Role

As the leader of the Data Engineering & Platforms function, you will:

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of critical data platforms responsible for processing, governing, and serving enterprise data at scale.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across platform engineering, data engineering, operational support, and programme delivery.
  • Drive engineering maturity, operational excellence, and cloud optimisation across the platform estate.

Ideal Experience & Expertise

You will typically hold proven experience in:

  • Enterprise-scale data platforms, including:
    • Data Lakes
    • Data Warehouses
    • Lakehouse architectures
    • Modern cloud data platforms

  • Cloud-native ecosystems, with a strong focus on Azure

  • Large-scale distributed data processing technologies, such as:

    • ETL/ELT pipelines

  • Define and execute long-term strategy for enterprise data platforms, covering Data Lake, analytics, and campaign management capabilities.

  • Lead multi-team programmes, encompassing data engineering, platform engineering, operational support, and strategic programme delivery.

Platform Reliability & Operations

  • Ensure service availability, scalability, resilience, and recoverability across critical data platforms.
  • Optimise operational performance for enterprise-scale workloads.

Cloud & FinOps

  • Drive cloud cost optimisation and adoption of FinOps practices across large-scale data workloads.
