Bikeability Cycle Training Instructor

Job Details

  • Salary Range: £27,780 - £30,564 pro-rata, per annum (actual £20,835 - £22,923 per annum)
  • Work Location: Elizabeth II Court, Winchester (Hybrid Working)
  • Hours per Week: 37
  • Contract: Temporary until 31st July 2027 (term time only – 39 weeks per annum)
  • Closing Date: 14 July 2026
  • Interview Date: Week commencing 27th July

The Role

Joining Hampshire Outdoors’ Bikeability Cycle Training Team as an Instructor, you’ll use your passion for cycling to help inspire and equip children with the skills and confidence to cycle safely on the road.

You’ll play a key role in promoting active travel, independence, and wellbeing for young people across Hampshire.

Key aspects of the role:

  • If you don’t yet hold the required Bikeability award, we’ll provide fully accredited training before you start delivering courses.
  • The role will primarily focus on the Central and North regions, including Winchester, Basingstoke, Andover, Farnborough, and surrounding areas, with Winchester as your main office base.
  • Some flexibility on location may be possible for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality Bikeability cycle training to primary school pupils, groups, and individuals.
  • Plan, risk assess, and deliver safe, engaging training sessions as part of a team.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor outcomes, and support quality improvement.
  • Drive the Bikeability van (training provided) and manage session equipment.
  • Promote cycling as a healthy, sustainable travel option and remove barriers to participation.

Requirements

Essential

  • An experienced, confident, and enthusiastic cyclist with your own bike and helmet.
  • A passion for outdoor activities, comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and risk management, with an understanding of delivering high-quality experiences.
  • Ability to travel across Hampshire, transport equipment to schools, and meet flexible scheduling needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and basic IT literacy.
  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training (or willingness to train).

Experience (Bonus)

  • Previous roles may include: Cycle Skills Instructor, Cycling Education Instructor, Sports Coach, or similar job titles.
