Junior Legal Biller

Our Finance Department plays a vital role in ensuring the firm operates effectively, supporting our legal teams through accurate, timely and compliant billing. We are now looking for an enthusiastic Junior Legal Biller to join our busy London office and develop a rewarding career within legal finance.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career within legal finance and billing. Working alongside experienced Legal Billers and our wider Finance team, you will receive full training in legal billing processes, Legal Aid Agency claims and private client billing.

You will assist with preparing bills, reviewing files, processing claims and supporting fee earners to ensure work is billed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and firm procedures.

This role would suit someone with strong administration skills, excellent attention to detail and an interest in finance or the legal sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of Legal Aid Agency claims.
  • Support billing for Magistrates' Court, Crown Court and Police Station matters.
  • Assist with CCMS billing and associated claim preparation.
  • Prepare CRM7s and other Legal Aid documentation where appropriate.
  • Assist with private client billing and invoice production.
  • Review files to ensure billing information is complete and accurate before submission.
  • Liaise with Fee Earners regarding outstanding billing requirements and file queries.
  • Process billing amendments, write-offs and file transfers as instructed.
  • Maintain accurate billing records across the firm's case management and finance systems.
  • Ensure bills comply with Legal Aid Agency regulations, client requirements and internal procedures.
  • Assist with month-end billing targets and reporting.
  • Respond to billing enquiries from colleagues and external organisations.
  • Support continuous improvement of billing processes and administrative efficiency.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills with a professional and approachable manner.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in legal billing, finance or office administration.
  • Experience working within a law firm.
  • Knowledge of the Legal Aid Agency billing process.
  • Familiarity with CCMS, CRM7s or legal case management systems.
  • Understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules (not essential).
  • Experience using legal finance software such as SOS, LEAP, Eclipse, Proclaim or similar systems.
