Biodiversity Technical Officer
# Biodiversity Technical Officer – Dorset Council
We are looking for a Biodiversity Technical Officer to join our friendly and passionate Natural Environment Team at Dorset Council. With a growing portfolio of planning and project work, we are seeking someone who is personable, qualified, and can hit the ground running, providing technical support to the team.

The Natural Environment Team is a specialist group of friendly professionals.
## Responsibilities
Primary Duties
- Assist ecology officers in:
- Organising and recording responses to planning applications
- Coordinating and tracking ecological advice for Dorset Council schemes, projects, and land management activities
- Collaborate with the Team Manager to:
- Coordinate teamwork
- Track team finances
- Support team communications
- Ensure smooth running of team procedures and systems

Key Responsibilities
- Handle a varying workload and multi-tasking efficiently
- Engage with guidance development, evaluation of new systems, and workplace efficiencies
- Provide ecological advice when required
- Work closely with colleagues and external partners
## Requirements & Preferences
Must-Have Qualification & Skills
- A relevant qualifications in biodiversity, ecology, or related field
- Strong communication and organisation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent time management and prioritisation abilities
- A flexible approach, openness to site visits and travel
- A valid full driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)

Desirable Knowledge & Experience
- Understanding of the current UK planning system
- Familiarity with Dorset wildlife and habitats (though not mandatory)
Work Arrangements
- Mixed working environment: office, remote, site visits
- Permanent and full-time position (37 hours per week)
