Biogas Plant Manager
Plant Manager – Anaerobic Digestion Site (Colchester)
Astute’s Renewable Energy team is partnering with a UK leading business in anaerobic digestion, specialising in cost-effective, low-carbon food and organic waste management. We are recruiting a Plant Manager for their site in Colchester.
The strategically important Plant Manager role offers:
- Salary of up to £52,000

Reporting Structure
- Reports to the Area Manager
Responsibilities & Duties
The Plant Manager will be responsible for:
- Optimising process plant operations
- Managing feedstock processing and planning
- Weekly and monthly reporting of plant efficiency, trends, and analysing data
- Providing solutions to technical variances
- Overseeing site maintenance and coordinating PPM
- Covering on-call and weekend shift duties
- Ensuring cost control and budget management
- Managing external contractors when necessary
- Drafting RAMS and being accountable for HSE
- Liaising with external bodies, such as the Environmental Agency
- Supervising on-site colleagues, including Operators and Engineers
- Performing first-line mechanical maintenance and escalating complex faults to an on-call team
- Undertaking other duties as required

Qualifications
A strong candidate will have:
- A qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably chemical or mechanical engineering – beneficial but not essential)
- A Mobile Plant licence (e.g., telehandler, loading shovel) or equivalent time-served experience
- NEBOSH qualification or willingness to train towards it
- A full UK driving licence (essential)
Key Personal Skills & Attributes
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience in anaerobic digestion or a similar heavy processing environment at a managerial or supervisory level
- Demonstrate a hands-on, leads-by-example approach
- Exhibit excellent computer literacy
- Embrace a continuous improvement mindset and show a genuine passion for the industry
- Possess strong people management skills
