Biogas Plant Operator

Astute’s Renewables team is seeking a motivated, hardworking Biogas Plant Operator to join their team in Scunthorpe. This role operates under a 4 on, 4 off day shift pattern and includes participation in an on-call rota following proper training.

About the Role

The Biogas Plant Operator plays a vital role in maintaining and operating renewable energy processes while adhering to strict safety and operational standards. This position blends hands-on maintenance with process monitoring, requiring both technical aptitude and discretion.

Reports To: [Plant Manager]

Words directly from the role guidelines: You will:

  • Operate daily processes of the renewable energy plant
  • Monitor systems using SCADA controls (training provided)
  • Conduct routine maintenance, including pump replacements, greasing, lubrication, and filter changes
  • Assist biologists with analysis (training provided)
  • Feed fuel to processes using mobile plant equipment (e.g., telehandlers)
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures
  • Maintain compliance with all health and safety protocols
  • Become eligible for on-call shifts upon successful training

Qualifications & Experience

Professional Requirements

  • Relevant engineering certification/qualification (advantageous, but not mandatory)
  • Driving licence: Full and valid UK licence (essential)
  • Existing telehandler or plant tickets (e.g., loading shovel, tractor, etc.) (Non-essential, but a major benefit)

Personal Skills

  • Experience operating in similar outdoor mechanical environments
  • Hands-on first-line maintenance skills
  • Renowned interest in renewable energy
  • Professional work ethic and a desire to contribute to a supportive team
