Biomedical Scientist
Histopathology Technician (Routine Laboratory Scientist)
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated biomedical scientist with strong organisational skills and a positive attitude to support our busy histopathology team. The role will involve working in the routine histology lab and-assisted cut-up/diagnostic cytology preparation areas, primarily based at University College London Hospitals (UHL) with occasional support across ESEL sites depending on service needs.
The ideal candidate should have experience in Cellular Pathology (Histopathology).
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake routine laboratory techniques in compliance with Department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), supervised.
- Accurately record and manage data on the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring national and local compliance.
- Assist clinical staff as required to optimise service delivery.
- Perform routine maintenance of laboratory instrumentation.
- Maintain and update the laboratory protocols for assigned areas.
- Undertake specialised technical tasks as directed.
- Collaborate with hospital staff across multiple departments and sites.

About the ESEL Pathology Partnership
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation that delivers pathology services to three NHS Trusts:
- Barts Health NHS Trust
- Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
- Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust
The Partnership has three operational divisions:
- Blood Sciences (Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry)
- Microbiology and Virology
- Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics
Transformation: Launched in May 2021, the collaboration unified laboratories under:
- A single LIMS
- A single Quality Management System (QMS)
- A centralised laboratory hub at Royal London Hospital with Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) across six additional sites.
