Introduction
Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Biomedical Scientist (Band 5/6) to join their laboratory team in Epsom, Surrey. This is an excellent opportunity for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist, Clinical Chemistry Biomedical Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist to work within a modern diagnostic laboratory, supporting the delivery of high-quality pathology services and outstanding patient care.
Working within a multidisciplinary laboratory team, you will perform a wide range of Clinical Chemistry investigations, ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic results that directly support clinical decision-making and positive patient outcomes.
Key Duties
- Perform analytical testing, validation, and processing of patient samples within a Clinical Chemistry laboratory.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analysers and diagnostic equipment.
- Process urgent, routine, and specialist pathology investigations within agreed turnaround times.
- Review, verify, and authorise laboratory results in accordance with SOPs, competency requirements, and laboratory quality standards.
- Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.
- Support analyser installation, validation, and verification activities where required.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS accreditation standards, and laboratory quality management systems.
- Ensure accurate documentation, record keeping, and full sample traceability using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Work collaboratively with clinicians, consultants, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support high-quality patient care.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.

Requirements
- Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist (essential).
- IBMS-accredited degree.
- Previous experience working as a Biomedical Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Clinical Chemistry Biomedical Scientist.
- Experience working within an NHS, private healthcare, pathology, or diagnostic laboratory.
- Experience with analyser installation, validation, and verification.
- Experience using Beckman Coulter DXI9000 analysers or equivalent automated laboratory platforms.
- Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Strong understanding of ISO 15189, UKAS, laboratory quality management systems, IQC, and EQA processes.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy laboratory environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Good IT and data management skills.
