At University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, patients are at the centre of all we do.

Derbyshire Pathology provides pathology services for Royal Derby Hospital, Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Queen's Hospital, Burton (since October 2021) and is hosted by University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation.

We are part of a modern laboratory within Derbyshire Pathology, a joint venture for Derby, Burton and Chesterfield so this post may require cross site working.

If you are an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist/Specialist Biomedical Scientist and would relish a new challenge, then we would love to hear from you. This is an exciting time to become part of a diverse team. The laboratory is covered 24 hours every day and the successful candidate would be required to work weekends on a rotational basis and participate in the on-call rota.

To be eligible for a band 6 you will need to have completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma or be within a few months of completing this.

We’re looking for a passionate and committed individual who shares our values and want to invest in continuously to improve and transform our services.

To undertake the day to day sample processing and analytical clinical investigations for Microbiology to the agreed standard of timeliness and quality. Supervise Band 5 Biomedical Scientists and MLAs within their work area.

To engage in training of staff. To fully participate in on-call and weekend duties. Familiarisation and understanding of ISO 15189 standards, Health & Safety requirements; audit and training/education techniques is essential.

Experience of utilising transformation methodologies to drive change and improve service delivery is also desirable. Proactive individuals, with drive and dedication will excel in this post.
