ROLE: Birmingham Panthers NXT Gen Head Coach

REPORTS TO: NSL Head Coach/ Franchise Pathway Lead

LOCATION: Walsall, matchday locations across UK

HOURS: Part Time

CLOSING DATE: 21st September 2025

Purpose

To lead the Birmingham Panthers NXT Gen squad, delivering a performance-focused development programme that aligns with the franchise’s playing philosophy and future ambitions. The Head Coach will be responsible for cultivating a high-performance culture, guiding emerging athletes towards NSL readiness, and building a competitive, development-driven team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Leadership

  • Design and lead the overall coaching strategy for the NXT Gen programme, aligned with the NSL style of play and player pathway vision
  • Provide a clear and consistent playing philosophy to underpin training, selection, and matchday performance
  • Collaborate with support staff to ensure holistic athlete development across physical, technical, tactical, and mental performance areas

Coaching Delivery

  • Plan and deliver high-quality training sessions with clear objectives and development outcomes
  • Lead team and unit-based coaching sessions (attack, defence, centre court) based on team and individual needs
  • Monitor and drive individual player development through feedback, reviews, and goal setting

Match Preparation & Performance

  • Oversee all aspects of match preparation including tactical planning, opposition analysis, and selection decisions
  • Lead in-game coaching and decision-making, managing matchday staff and athletes
  • Conduct post-match reviews and feedback processes with athletes and coaches

Talent Development & Alignment

  • Identify and nurture athletes with potential to progress into the NSL squad
  • Work closely with the NSL Head Coach to ensure clear alignment between programmes and consistent messaging
  • Collaborate with franchise pathway coaches to support athlete transitions and broader talent ID

Leadership & Culture

  • Build a positive, competitive, and inclusive team culture that reflects the Panthers’ values
  • Role model high standards of professionalism and conduct
  • Mentor and support emerging coaches within the NXT Gen and wider franchise network

Key Characteristics

  • Visionary and athlete-centred leader passionate about long-term development

Experience Required

  • Proven experience leading or coaching in a performance netball environment
  • Strong knowledge of talent development principles and youth-to-senior transitions
  • Expertise in technical and tactical coaching across court areas
  • Confident in managing staff and leading a programme
  • Experience with performance analysis tools and feedback delivery

Certifications Required

  • UKCC Level 2 (minimum) – Level 3 preferred or working towards
  • Enhanced DBS check (England Netball)
  • Safeguarding and First Aid certificates

Contract Details

  • Part-time role across pre-season and competitive season
  • Evening training and weekend match commitments
