We are looking to register new Shared Lives carer households in B&NES. Shared Lives is a service where the carer uses their own home and daily life to provide support to people who have eligible needs.
We are seeking households where one or more people present is experienced in care and support or a related role. We are most interested in full-time households, whereby a person supported lives with the carer but we will also consider respite and day support households. The needs of the person supported may include: learning disability, autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, personal care (toileting and keeping clean), mobility needs, health conditions or other needs. We match people specifically with each shared lives household and the carer has the final say on whether or not they support a person.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As an example, a household supporting a person with higher levels of need on a full-time basis would be likely to have income from that arrangement of over £50,000 per year.
Full-time placements also involve the client spending time away from the household for day services and respite in order for carers to have breaks and keep the arrangement sustainable.
The scheme offers full training in care and support, the support of a dedicated coordinator and a detailed matching process with potential clients.
There are significant tax incentives available for Shared Lives households, £20,440 per household per year PLUS £515 per person supported per week (up to a maximum of 3 people) income tax-free. Shared Lives carers are self-employed and are responsible for their own tax arrangements.
