16 Collective is seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors
We will initially recruit a Director with finance expertise, followed by a second Director with experience in HR or public policy.
We particularly welcome applications from individuals working across the arts and cultural sector, or with relevant experience supporting creative organisations.
Term
November 2026 to November 2027 (1 year) – including a 6 months trial period and possibility to extend tenure for up to 3 years.
Time Commitment
Around 25 hours per year, based on 6 meetings per year and inclusive of preparation time.
This is a unique opportunity to help 16 Collective develop a support system for our ongoing programme and build a board governance structure rooted in our long-standing commitment to feminist ethos and practice. As a Non-Executive Director you will play a vital role in ensuring that the CIC fulfils its core commitments to our communities in line with our vision, mission, and values; supporting and challenging the core team to help the organisation flourish.
About 16 Collective
16 Collective (formerly known as 16 Nicholson Street) is a Glasgow-based feminist curatorial collective and art gallery which consists of Nell Cardozo, Aga Paulina Młyńczak and Kelly Rappleye. The organisation is currently managed by its two executive directors Cardozo and Młyńczak.

We aim to challenge the sector-wide gender and class disparities in contemporary art discourses, labour conditions, professional opportunities, and cultural narratives.
16 Collective's programme is informed by interdisciplinary research in a creative laboratory model and partnership working. Since 2016, we have been supporting early and mid-career artists to develop and produce large scale commissioned bodies of work for exhibitions and publications. Since 2023, 16 Collective has worked with an site-specific model building our focus on fostering and commissioning long-term, research-led artistic projects foregrounding an engagement with urban spatial politics and social histories. Our organisation works to insure the future of the Scottish art sector and workforce against deepening socio-economic power imbalances by making an intervention into early-career and sustained artists’ development opportunities.
Purpose of Role
16 Collective Non-Executive Directors play a vital role in making sure that the organisation stays compliant, financially stable and continues to develop a framework to empower art workers in the sector.

16 Collective is looking for people who are passionate about our mission, willing to bring energy and commitment to the role, who will bring diversity of knowledge to the board, and who are prepared to support 16C throughout this foundational time. We are looking for individuals with some experience of Board governance or a previous Trustee/Directorial position, however applicants without this experience will be considered provided other relevant experience can be shown. 16 Collective actively encourages LGBTQIA+ identifying, marginalised-gender, Black and Global Majority, Deaf and disabled people to apply.
As we develop our board structure in stages, 16 Collective is specifically looking for people with knowledge in the following areas, including expertise in governance, financial and regulatory compliance:
