Join the Board of Solace Coffee CIC and help grow a social enterprise creating opportunities through hospitality and enterprise. We deliver programmes in HMP Ford and HMP Preston, support learners through the gate, and seek three Board Members to strengthen governance and support our growth.
What difference will you make?
The appointment of three Non-Executive Directors will play a vital role in helping Solace Coffee strengthen its foundations and maximise its impact as we enter our next phase of growth.
Our organisation has grown rapidly in two years, developing a café and catering offer, delivering hospitality and employability programmes within HMP Ford and HMP Preston, and working with partners to support learners both in custody and through the gate. As we continue to expand, we need strong governance, strategic oversight and experienced guidance to ensure we build a sustainable organisation that can create long-term opportunities for the people we support.
Our Non-Executive Directors will help us strengthen our decision-making, improve our governance structures and provide the expertise needed to prepare for future funding opportunities, partnerships and investment. Their support will enable us to develop stronger systems, increase our sustainability and ensure we continue delivering high-quality programmes that make a meaningful difference.
By supporting the Founder and leadership team, our Non-Executive Directors will help shape the strategic direction of Solace Coffee, identify new growth opportunities and ensure our commercial activities continue to support our social mission.
The impact of this role will be felt across all areas of our work. Stronger governance and strategic support will allow us to expand our hospitality and enterprise programmes, create more pathways into employment, and support more people who face barriers to accessing opportunities.
This is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation with a clear purpose using hospitality, skills development and enterprise to help people build confidence, gain experience and move towards positive futures.
Our new Non-Executive Directors will not only help strengthen Solace Coffee as an organisation; they will help us increase the number of people we can support and the impact we can create within communities.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for three Non-Executive Directors who are passionate about social enterprise, creating opportunities and supporting people to overcome barriers to employment.
The most important qualities we are looking for are a genuine commitment to our mission, the ability to provide strategic guidance, and the confidence to offer constructive challenge and support to the Founder and leadership team.
Solace Coffee is entering an exciting stage of growth, and we are seeking individuals who can bring professional expertise, independent thinking and a collaborative approach to help us strengthen our governance, increase our sustainability and maximise our social impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

-
Commercial growth and enterprise Experience growing businesses, developing sustainable income streams, creating partnerships or scaling social enterprises. We are particularly interested in people who understand how commercial success can enable greater social impact.
-
Hospitality, food or retail Experience in hospitality operations, customer experience, catering, food businesses or developing sustainable trading models would be valuable as we continue to grow our café and catering offer.
-

-
Criminal Justice, Employability or Skills Development Experience or understanding of rehabilitation, employment pathways, education, skills development or supporting people facing barriers to opportunity would be highly valued.
We are open to applications from people with lived experience of the challenges faced by the communities we support. We recognise that lived experience brings valuable insight, perspective and understanding to our Board, and we believe diverse experiences make organisations stronger.
We are also keen to hear from people who may be taking on their first Non-Executive Director role, provided they can bring relevant professional expertise, strategic thinking and a commitment to our values.
Above all, we are looking for people who believe in the power of opportunity, are collaborative in their approach and are excited by the chance to help shape a growing social enterprise. Your contribution will help us strengthen our organisation, expand our impact and create more pathways into employment, enterprise and positive futures for the people we support.
