We are a registered charity providing support services for adults with learning disabilities, primarily in Lewisham. Find out more at www.plus-services.org

This is an exciting time to join PLUS, which has built strong foundations with a high-quality leadership team, excellent staff levels and a positive culture. There is significant value to add to ensure PLUS is fully sustainable for the long-term, and we’re eager to bring fresh thinking and new perspectives into our board.

We are keen to hear from potential trustees who can work collaboratively to support and scrutinize the executive leadership team and provide strategic direction within a consensus-based decision-making structure. We’re looking to appoint up to two new trustees, with a particular focus on those who bring experience and knowledge in one or more the following areas:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No prior board experience? No problem! We have strong governance expertise within the board and several experienced trustees in place. We are therefore well placed to support your development in applying your skills as a non-executive trustee.

We have also ensured our board reflects the diverse community we serve and take an inclusive approach. We particularly encourage applications from minority ethnic backgrounds and/or young people.

Above all, the most important quality is a commitment to supporting people with learning disabilities and the values of PLUS. If you believe you can make a strong contribution as a trustee, we’d love to hear from you.

The board meets quarterly, on Monday evenings from 5pm-7pm. The meetings are hybrid, with trustees joining virtually or in our Lewisham offices. Trustees should expect, on average, one additional meeting per quarter on their ‘lead’ area. This may be with another trustee and/or executive management, and will be arranged ad hoc at mutual convenience. Our supportive induction programme will also include a visit to our front-line services.

How to apply

If this opportunity interests you, please submit your CV along with a brief cover letter outlining your reason for applying and suitability for the role to gaile@plus-services.org by Sunday 2nd August
