The Cathedral College, is a Catholic, co-educational, Secondary, Boarding College with Catholic Education in the Diocese of Rockhampton. The College aims to deliver a holistic Catholic Education where academic excellence goes hand in hand with spiritual, emotional, physical, cultural and social development.
The College is built in the shadow of St Joseph’s Cathedral and welcomes 189 Boarders from across Central Queensland and beyond, enriching the College community. 1330 students are enrolled and all are invited to respond to Jesus Christ’s message to ‘come live life in all its fullness’.
Girls' Boarding is located a short distance from the College in Agnes Street and Boys’ Boarding is situated on the College site in Derby Street. Our Boarders are an integral part of the College and enrich College life.
About The Role
We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Chef to join our Boarding School Catering Department and become part of a committed team providing nutritious, high-quality meals for our boarding community. This is an excellent opportunity for a chef seeking stable employment, attractive working hours, and a positive supportive workplace that takes pride in producing fresh, well-balanced meals for young people.
Responsibilities
The Chef is responsible for the production, transportation and distribution of food for the boarding students and staff, ensuring that a high standard is maintained in relation to all aspects of food management. Your responsibilities may include:

- Prepare and cook nutritious well-presented meals for boarding students and staff
- Work collaboratively with the catering team to plan menus that meet dietary, nutritional, and cultural requirements
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
- Assist with ordering, stock control, and efficient kitchen operations

About You
The successful applicant will:
- have an understanding of, and a commitment to, the ethos of Catholic education
- relevant trade qualifications (Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent)
- a strong understanding of food safety and kitchen compliance
- a flexible, team oriented approach with a commitment to quality and consistency
- a genuine interest in working within a school and boarding environment
- have excellent time management skills
- have well developed interpersonal skills
Previous experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen (education, health, hospitality or similar) is highly desirable. A willingness to work rostered weekend and night shifts and an “Open” Driver’s Licence (QLD) is desirable.

Mandatory Requirements
- A current valid Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (WWC Act) and valid Suitability Notice is a requirement of the position.
- Relevant trade qualifications (Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent)
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
