Bomber Subject Matter Expert (SME) & Systems Engineer

About the Role
Join Leidos in a dynamic team focused on defense innovation, where you will serve as a Bomber Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Systems Engineer—leading the charge in complex mission planning software development, Agile/Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies, and mission-driven problem-solving. Your work will directly support important defense programs, including B-1, B-2, and B-52 aircraft.
Primarily based in Fort Walton Beach, FL (Eglin AFB area), we’re also considering candidates near Hanscom AFB, Dyess AFB, and Tinker AFB.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead as a Bomber SME: Provide expertise in mission planning software, guiding development and integration teams.
- Agile Systems Engineering Leadership:
- Collaborate with Agile Product Managers, Release Train Managers, and cross-functional teams to define product vision, design, test, and sustainment strategies.
- Create and manage technical artifacts: Technical backlogs, Statements of Work, Contract Data Requirements Lists, use cases, and requirements traceability matrices.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Partner with government/Program stakeholders to prioritize work, identify gaps, and ensure alignment with mission needs.
- Agile Execution & Metrics: Monitor software development KPIs, analyze results, and recommend improvements for process optimization.
- Scrum Engagements: Attend Product Owner Scrum meetings and Program Increment (PI) planning to ensure smooth execution.
- Technical Representation: Act as the Government voice in Product Management (Program Backlog SME), translating stakeholder needs into actionable requirements and a strategic roadmap.
- Requirements & Architecture: Help define critical systems, architectures, interfaces, and validate technical assumptions across Agile Release Trains.
- Continuous Improvement: Foster a learning culture by leveraging existing mission planning processes while innovating for better outcomes.

Basic Qualifications
- Citizenship & Security Clearance: U.S. Citizen; active Secret clearance with eligibility (and ability) to obtain TS/SCI.
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree + 8+ years of experience OR Master’s degree + 6+ years of experience (exceptions may apply).
- Bomber Mission Expertise: Hands-on experience with B-1, B-2, and/or B-52 mission planning at the unit/wing/AOC level.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal skills for collaborating with customers, engineers, and domain experts.
- Tool Proficiency: Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Preferred Qualifications
- Clearance Upgrade: Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Agile Expertise: Experience with Scrum at Scale (SAFe) and tools like Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, SharePoint.
- Additional Bomber Knowledge: Familiarity with other bomber aircraft operations.
- Software & Systems Engineering: Understanding of SDLC, test concepts, DoD processes, and technical orders.
