About The Role

Our client, a well-established Accountancy practice, due to an exciting period of expansion, are currently recruiting an organised, proactive, and flexible Senior Bookkeeper to join their friendly and professional team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a varied role and enjoys working with multiple clients across different sectors.

The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing the day-to-day bookkeeping activities for a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional service delivery. This role requires close collaboration with Accountants and Client Managers to support smooth financial operations and contribute to high-quality client outcomes. Reporting directly to the Financial Director, the successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the financial health of the client accounts and supporting the broader finance team in various operational tasks.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience within a similar accounts or bookkeeping role, preferably within an accountancy practice. A strong numerical aptitude, keen attention to detail, and excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—are essential. Proficiency in spreadsheets and accounting software such as Xero, SAGE, or QuickBooks is required. A background in handling VAT returns, payroll, and reconciliation processes will be advantageous. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently under deadlines. Relevant professional qualifications or studying towards ACCA, AAT, or similar certifications would be beneficial but are not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Record and process daily financial transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Reconcile sales taxes, payroll taxes, and bank accounts at the end of each month to ensure data integrity.
  • Monitor financial transactions, prepare reports, and analyze financial data for discrepancies or anomalies.
  • Manage accounts receivable and payable, ensuring timely processing and collections.
  • Process payments, including checks and electronic transfers, maintaining proper documentation.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with current regulations.
  • Oversee sales and purchase ledgers, ensuring all entries are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Support the Financial Director with cash flow forecasting, departmental budgeting, and cost centre analysis to identify efficiencies and streamline workflows.
  • Handle monthly payroll processes using accounting software, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with Inland Revenue, banks, and external auditors as required, maintaining strong professional relationships.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls to enhance financial accuracy and security.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure seamless financial operations and reporting.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and provide support for financial audits and reviews as needed.
