Sweeting & Smedley Limited is a well-established accountancy practice based in Hurst, near Wokingham. We work with a varied portfolio of SME clients and pride ourselves on providing a friendly, professional and reliable service.
We are looking for an experienced, organised and proactive Bookkeeper & Office Manager to join our growing team.
This is a varied role combining the firm’s internal bookkeeping with office management and administration duties. It would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership, keeping things running smoothly, and working in a busy professional services environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing the firm’s internal bookkeeping, payroll, invoicing and credit control, while also supporting the day-to-day running of the office.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is confident with bookkeeping and enjoys being a central point of support for both clients and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
- Managing the firm’s internal bookkeeping using QuickBooks
- Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns
- Running the monthly payroll process
- Managing invoicing and credit control
- Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the office
- Setting up new clients on internal systems and software
- Managing incoming calls and directing enquiries appropriately
- Welcoming clients and visitors to the office
- Maintaining accurate client records and administrative systems
- Providing general administrative support to the wider team
About You
The ideal candidate will be experienced, reliable and highly organised, with strong bookkeeping skills and the confidence to manage a broad range of office responsibilities.
You Will Need To Have
- Previous bookkeeping experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or professional services environment
- Good working knowledge of QuickBooks
- Experience preparing VAT returns
- Experience processing payroll
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy office
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel
- A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to support the wider team
