About Wellcome Trust
The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.
We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.
These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.
Where Will I Be Working?
You will work within the Communications function, part of Wellcome’s Corporate Affairs directorate reporting to the Head of News and Content. This is a senior, high-profile role working closely with executive and board-level stakeholders, leading a medium sized team and partnering across the organisation and with external agencies globally on high-profile communications showcasing Wellcome’s mission to build healthier futures for everyone, while holding responsibility for mitigating organisational risk.
What Will I Be Doing?
You will oversee a high-performing team responsible for brand strategy, employer brand, Wellcome Trust’s corporate communications and flagship branded partnerships.
You will develop a clear and consistent global strategy that strengthens reputation, influence and reach. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will provide expert counsel on high-profile and sensitive issues, helping to protect and enhance organisational reputation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
