You’d be joining a team of over 250 passionate, ambitious people across the UK, Europe and US, building a category-leading FinTech product with the mission to improve the lives of millions.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Creative AI and working side-by-side with our UK Creative Director, this is a freelance engagement to partner with the wider UK brand team and the new Senior Brand Designer in the US, with one outcome: build the design system that scales Stream’s creative output across both markets.
The initial contract is three months, with strong potential to extend as the work evolves and the system matures.
You’ll spend Mondays and Tuesdays embedded with the UK creative team, working to turn Stream’s brand into a system that everyone — designers, non-designers, and AI tools — can use to ship high-quality creative work at speed.
This is a Figma-heavy role at the intersection of brand design and product design. We’re looking for someone with the systems thinking of a product designer and the visual craft of a brand designer, who can architect component libraries, design tokens, and templates that make our brand both consistent and effortlessly scalable. The work you ship will be the foundation the global creative team — and increasingly, our AI-assisted workflows — builds on top of.
Responsibilities
- Pair day-to-day with the UK Creative Director, translating their creative direction into the components, templates and tokens that scale across the brand
- Architect and maintain Stream’s brand design system in Figma — components, variants, properties, design tokens, auto-layout — as the single source of truth across UK and US teams
- Build self-serve templates that let non-designers across marketing, sales and partnerships produce on-brand work without going through the design team
- Design AI-ready assets and workflows — components and templates structured so that AI tools can compose, customise and generate variations at scale, without breaking the brand
- Partner with the Head of Creative AI on integrating AI-assisted design tools into the team’s day-to-day, from generative ideation through to automated production
- Support the UK Creative Director and brand team with high-quality brand executions across digital, social, print and event collateral when capacity demands
- Document the system clearly so non-designers can adopt it confidently — Figma onboarding decks, template usage guides, brand rules of the road
- Partner with the US Senior Brand Designer to keep the global brand consistent and the system useful in both markets

What we're looking for
Must-Haves
- 3–5 years of experience in brand, product, or hybrid brand/product design
- Demonstrable experience building and maintaining a design system in Figma — components, variants, properties, design tokens, auto-layout
- A strong brand portfolio showing visual craft across at least two of: digital, social, print, events
- A systems mindset: you think in components and templates, not one-off artworks
- Ability to translate brand into scalable templates that non-designers can use without breaking
- Curiosity and comfort experimenting with AI-assisted design tools and workflows
- Excellent written communication — you can document a system so others can use it
- Available Mondays and Tuesdays, based in or commutable to London
Strong Pluses
- Product design background, or experience working closely alongside product designers
- Experience with Figma variables, design token tooling (Tokens Studio, Style Dictionary) or design-to-code pipelines
- Hands-on experience with AI image and video tools (Nano Banana, Midjourney, Firefly, Runway, Veo) and ideas about how they plug into design systems
- Lightweight motion graphics or video production
- Experience designing for B2B SaaS or fintech
- A point of view on how AI is changing the design-systems discipline

What Success Looks Like
The milestones below shape the initial three months. If the engagement extends, the foundations laid in this period become the platform for everything that follows.
Month 1: Audit, plan, first wins
- You’ve audited Stream’s existing brand assets, built working relationships with the UK Creative Director, the wider UK brand team and the US Senior Brand Designer, and produced a clear gap analysis of where the design system is today and where it needs to be.
- You’ve shipped at least one self-serve template that the marketing team is already using.
Month 2: System live
- The first proper version of the structured Figma design system is live — components, variants, properties, design tokens, auto-layout.
- The global team has started adopting it on real work.
- Documentation that non-designers can follow without help is in draft, and you’re partnering with the Head of Creative AI on the first AI-assisted production workflows that plug into the system.
Month 3: System adopted
- Stream’s brand design system is the source of truth for both UK and US teams, well documented, AI-ready, and used on day-to-day work.
- Marketing, sales and partnership teams self-serve from your templates; AI tools compose on top of the system rather than around it.
- The system is in good enough shape to keep growing — either with you continuing alongside the team, or handed over cleanly with documentation and a maintenance plan.
Contract
Initial 3-month freelance contract, with strong potential to extend subject to mutual fit and the evolving needs of the design system. Two days per week, Mondays and Tuesdays, in-person from our London office.
Rate
£300/day
