Roughan O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a talented bridge design engineer with three to seven years’ relevant experience for a permanent position within our bridge and civil-structural engineering team in Leeds.

About The Role
As an experienced bridge design engineer, you will provide valuable design input to our bridges and multidisciplinary civil-structural engineering projects. You will be supported throughout by senior members of our bridge teams in Ireland and the UK.

Renfrew Bridge, Renfrewshire, Scotland Herring Bridge, Great Yarmouth, UK Humber Bridge Maintenance Operation, UK Narrow Water Bridge, Omeath, Co Louth, Ireland Waterford City Public Infrastructure Project, Ireland A6 Dungiven to Drumahoe dualling scheme, Northern Ireland
Duties and responsibilities
Work with existing and new bridge and civil structures across a range of materials and forms, superstructure, substructure, foundation and articulation elements Participate in early project stages, including scoping, specifying and interpreting surveys, inspection and investigative works, optioneering and scheme design Undertake preliminary and detailed design work, including structural analytical modelling, calculations etc. Assisting in the production of drawings Prepare documents, including technical reports, specifications and contract documents Supporting the delivery of projects within agreed timeframes Undertake independent design checking and provide construction stage technical support Interface with clients from local and national authorities, consultants and design-and-build contractors amongst others
Essential Requirements
A minimum of three years' post-qualification experience in bridge detailed design Working towards chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent Good knowledge of structural analysis software including finite element analysis Ability to undertake bridge structure analytical modelling, including construction stage and finite element analysis Good technical knowledge of bridge design Meticulous in the detailing of bridge structures Flexible, motivated and focused A strong work ethic Experienced in written and in-person interaction with external parties Fluent or highly proficient in spoken and written English

Desirable
Good knowledge of and experience in the use of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and other standards and legislation in the field of bridge/structural design Working knowledge of Eurocodes in the field of bridge design Experience of working independently on detailed bridge design Excellent numerical and analytical skills Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment Experience of working to tight deadlines
