Bridge Engineer
Bridge Engineer (3+ Years’ Experience)
A leading multidisciplinary civil and structural engineering consultancy is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join their growing Leeds office.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected bridges team, delivering a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will play an important role in the design and delivery of bridge engineering projects while benefiting from structured professional development and clear progression within the business.
About the Role
As a Bridge Engineer, you will contribute to the design, assessment, and delivery of bridge and civil structures projects across a range of materials and structural forms.
You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle – from early feasibility and option development through to detailed design, construction support, and project completion. The role offers excellent exposure to clients, multidisciplinary teams, and a broad range of technically challenging infrastructure projects.
As your experience develops, you will be encouraged to:
- Take increasing ownership of projects
- Build client relationships
- Progress towards project leadership responsibilities
Typical Project Experience
Projects span a wide range of bridge and civil infrastructure schemes, including:
- Major highway and transport corridor upgrades
- Large-scale river and waterway crossings
- Urban infrastructure and regeneration bridge schemes
- Active travel and sustainable transport structures
- Complex maintenance, strengthening, and refurbishment programmes
- Operational and asset management frameworks for key bridge networks

Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and technical delivery of bridge engineering projects
- Undertake structural analysis, calculations, and design modelling
- Produce and coordinate engineering drawings with multidisciplinary teams
- Contribute to feasibility studies, optioneering, and site inspections
- Prepare specifications, technical reports, and contract documentation
- Work collaboratively with senior engineers to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Attend client, contractor, and stakeholder meetings
- Assist with mentoring graduate engineers where appropriate
- Develop technical expertise and contribute to the continued success of the bridges team
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Approximately 3+ years' experience in bridge engineering or civil structures
- Experience in the design and assessment of bridge structures
- Good understanding of UK bridge design standards and engineering principles
- Experience delivering projects through design stages, with some construction support
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software
- Strong communication skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage workloads effectively and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status (ICE or IStructE), or a commitment to achieving Chartership
