Role Description
We are looking for a Bridge Engineer to join our growing rail design team in York, supporting the delivery of high-profile rail infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to build your career in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, working on complex and rewarding schemes within rail. You will contribute to the delivery of design solutions that meet client, budget, programme and quality requirements, while benefiting from structured mentoring, professional development and support towards Chartered Engineer status.
Role Accountabilities
- Support the delivery of civil and structural design tasks across rail and multi-sector projects.
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other technical documentation in line with company, client and industry standards.
- Work within 3D design and BIM environments, including platforms such as AECOSim, Revit and Civil 3D, and contribute to projects delivered through a Common Data Environment.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to help resolve technical issues and deliver coordinated design solutions.
- Assist with project documentation and contribute to achieving programme, budget and quality targets.
- Attend site visits and surveys, including within rail environments, where required.
- Build effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and project stakeholders.
- Follow Arcadis systems, procedures, and health, safety and welfare requirements, while supporting a positive safety culture.
- Actively develop technical, professional and project delivery skills through on-the-job learning and mentoring.

Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Student or Graduate membership of ICE or IStructE.
- Experience in bridge and/or structural/civil design, ideally gained within a consultancy environment and with some exposure to the rail sector.
- Progressing towards Chartered Engineer status with ICE or IStructE.
- Experience using civil engineering design software to prepare design deliverable.
- Awareness of BIM principles and working within a Common Data Environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with good planning and organisational ability.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Proactive, collaborative and delivery-focused approach, with a willingness to take on new challenges and continue learning.
- Flexibility to travel occasionally within the UK.
