Stealth Browser Engineer

We are searching for the ultimate browser engineer—the architect who patches Chromium and Firefox at the C++ source level. You will maintain our critical in-house patched-browser cloud, ensuring our fingerprint surface makes automation harnesses appear indistinguishable from genuine users—no naive JavaScript trickery allowed.

About SearchApi

SearchApi is a leading real-time SERP (Search Engine Results Page) API delivering structured data from 100+ search engines, including Google Search, Google Shopping, YouTube, Amazon, and Bing. We power production-grade workloads for Fortune 500 clients, AI startups, and developers who depend on low-latency, high-reliability search data.

We are a lean, profitable, bootstrapped company—free of VC influence. Marketing efforts are focused solely on customer-facing product delivery.

🎯 Why Join us?

  • The deep end. You’ll navigate C++ browser internals, a domain most engineers treat as a black box.
  • Own the moat. Shape a patched browser stack from scratch—no wrappers, just true ownership.
  • Real impact. Closing a single detection gap can improve success rates for thousands of customer requests.
  • Rare expertise. Few professionals debug browser fingerprints at the engine level—we emit those experts.
  • Customer-first culture. You report to actual users, not investors or shareholders.

We're seeking self-driven engineers driven to dismantle headless automation diddling. Expect challenges around some of the most exotic problems in browser automation.

💻 Tech Stack

  • Core: Chromium & Firefox source code (C++), engine-level patches

  • Infrastructure: continuation of the build system (gn/ninja) and patching mechanisms with continuous upstream baseline refreshing

  • Protocol: Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP)

  • Fingerprinting: Perspec OS navigators, WebGL, canvas fingerprints, media indices, font infrastructure, and the Client Hints API

  • Open-source: camoufox, rebrowser, patchright, nodriver, ungoogled-chromium

  • Tooling: Ruby, Node.js, or Python (browser-integration layers)

  • Hosting: AWS (for the stealth-cloud infrastructure)

  • Integration stack: Cursor (AI-first dev tool), Claude (AI research), GitHub, Slack

No build-freeze, no NRE wait—ship multiple times daily with strict CI/CD.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

But:

  • Code quality > speed. Our C++ patches walk the refactoring tightrope—revision speed is important after the second pass.
  • **You must spot what was wrong.**Untrained auto-assessor verdicts do not land in master.

If you need a guardian angel for every pull request, this role isn’t for you.

💪 What You’ll Do

(This is deep work. We’re competing at speeds no streeks race.)

  • Handle the browser end-to-end. Ensure stable, semi-master platform on Chromium/Firefox. Keep fingerprints up to date with the latest upstream driftings (e.g. latest stable-build material) without regressions.

  • Patch the internals. Authenticate navigator, WebGL, canvas, fonts, and Client Hints through the true engine—fix them where it matters: глазадом (not through JS sandboxing).

  • Annoy bug randomization. Mitigate Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) entropy leaks, poisoning debuggers of all kinds.

  • Steal the details. Safely adjust geo, timezone, and locale consistency—making the OS "picture" pitch-perfect

  • Chase the detection signs. When a black-box service slaps a border at the entrance, landmark its error details your hunting ground.

  • Build the skel. Create tools to structure automated regression fermentation. (Testing, mocking layers, and by Extension validating.)

How you carve your own path. No ticket queue. Focus, OE, detect—then own your fixes programmatically.

⚠️ The Hard Parts

This role is for battlefield-hardened warriors.

  • The rebase countdown. Upstream never stops. Keeping patches alive is endless manual grind—no MediaWiki!

  • A messy C++ elephant. Navigating 2M lines of code won’t be entertainment.

  • Fingerprints architecture: moving target. Detection systems adapt—good evasions today are exploited tomorrow.

  • Isolation diagnostic deep. Fear not—you’ll police the blackest holes of the slate internals.

  • Long debugging cycles. Some tamper leaks take days of hair-pulling—alone.

  • Pensive. Persisters trampling barriers—success per point mattersMost.

  • Writer. Self-documenting know-it-all code flows matter. Bridging colleagues need your debug studies.
