Building Code Compliance Specialist | $90/hr Remote
Position: Building Code & Permitting Specialist
Type: Hourly contract
Compensation: $65-$90 per hour
Location: Remote
Role Responsibilities
Review and label construction documents, permit applications, site plans, and inspection reports to ensure compliance with building codes. Identify and classify code requirements, jurisdictional rules, and compliance elements across different regions. Audit annotated datasets for accuracy and alignment with local, state, and national building codes. Evaluate AI-generated outputs for correctness in permit requirements, zoning constraints, and code compliance. Define annotation guidelines for interpreting building codes and jurisdictional differences. Provide structured feedback to improve regulatory reasoning and accuracy across jurisdictions.

Requirements
Candidates should have strong familiarity with building codes, permitting workflows, and jurisdictional requirements. Experience as a Permit Expeditor coordinating with city agencies, submitting permits, and managing inspection processes is preferred. Candidates with a background as Architects should possess strong knowledge of building codes, design compliance, and plan preparation. Experience as Government Reviewers or Plan Examiners reviewing and approving permits within municipal or state agencies is highly valued. Deep expertise in one of the following jurisdictions: California, Texas, or Florida is required.
