We are looking for a Building Control Manager (Project Delivery) to join our successful team covering the East and West Midlands.
Role Details:
- Annual Salary – Up to £41,000 depending on experience
- Commission Structure
- Role based: – This role will be to cover the East and West Midlands – You can be based in either of these regions
- Permanent
- Company Car - Full UK driving licence
- Annual leave of 25 days per annum plus bank holidays and opportunity to buy an additional 5 days each year.
This key role is required to support a new, dedicated building control service within Portakabin.
As the Building Control Manager (Project Delivery) you will deliver a strategic plan to support Portakabin growth targets by utilising building control services to support project delivery and minimise risks associated with design / compliance. You will be liaising with internal stakeholders and supply chain representatives, the role will deliver the Building Control scope on Portakabin projects, ensuring Building Control activities are aligned with regional commercial and projects department practices and requirements alongside those of central functions.
In conjunction with Commercial Project Teams and other stakeholders, the role will oversee the delivery of building control related services and associated third party suppliers to ensure projects are designed and delivered in accordance with applicable legislation or approved alternative solutions; to allow first time compliance and a better project delivery for the client. With ‘right first time’ in mind, the Building Control Manager will support fleet on hire and getting to contract early or on time.

In this role you will be required to:
Strategic Delivery
- Execute building control applications expertly and timely, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
- Utilise an in-depth understanding of building control activities to support GB Hire in achieving divisional targets and objectives by utilising a ‘right first time’ approach.
- Drive effectiveness and efficiency through the implementation of best practices in relation to operational building control processes.
- Learn and develop Building Control knowledge through 3rd party engagement and training opportunities
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to provide commercial, operational and project delivery support.
- Work close with any 3rd party suppliers and manage them / their application to best service Portakabin or any given project
- Working in conjunction with all internal teams and clients to manage and set clear expectations for stakeholders. Ensure that these expectations are met where possible and demonstrate an honest and open approach at all times.
Collaboration and Risk Management
- Identify any supply chain gaps / potential for improvement and collaborate with the National Building Control Manager to source improvement.
- Utilise communication to ensure applications / workload is placed with the most suitable 3rd party supplier for individual projects.
- Collaborate with the regional Planning Manager where / when required
Business & Customer Focus
- Ensure the delivery of customised solutions for clients when applicable, meeting specific business or operational needs.
- Support internal stakeholders with their objectives through an engaged, collaborative approach.
Sub-Contractor Performance Management
- Identify any positive / negative performance of any sub-contractor and collaborate with the National Building Control Manager to source improvement.
- Maintain positive relationships with any sub-contractors by meeting the SLA’s we may have with them – e.g.. Ensure suitable notice is given for inspections

Our Ideal Candidate
- Strong experience working closely with internal stakeholders to provide commercial, operational and project delivery support
- Has experience managing multiple projects at the same time, and delivering them in agreed timeframes
- You will structure information to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience
- Experience of gaining clear agreement and commitment from others by persuading, convincing and negotiating
- Experience producing a range of solutions to problems
- Provide staff with development opportunities and coaching
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and drive in new initiatives
- Deliver efficiency improvement and optimisation.
- Monitors performance against deadlines and milestones
- Solid understanding of various software packages
- Including MS Excel and PowerPoint
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above
