We’re excited to open up a new development opportunity for a Building Fabric Trainee within our Mobile Delivery Team – as part of our new ‘develop’ initiative. This traineeship role is a perfect fit for those who want to add to their skillsets and progress into a building fabric role.
The successful candidate will learn what good looks like for pre-planned and reactive fabric maintenance tasks through the guidance of your mentor, learning skills in basic carpentry, plumbing and civils as well as undertaking regular PPM’s carried out on all our clients key equipment and fabric so the stores remain safe, legal and looking great.
You will also be required to gain an understanding of how to complete all necessary documentation relevant to site works, both paper and electronic, including method statements, risk assessments and permits and other relevant safety documentation.

What You'll Be Doing
Initially, you will be enrolled on a 6-month programme which will provide training on several key elements within building fabric. Through a mixture of on-the-job, practical and theoretical learning, you will develop the essential skills required to be a safe, productive and successful member of the team.

You will build up your foundational knowledge covering things like our systems, the PPMs we undertake, locksmithing and Health & Safety, as well as training on reactive tasks in a variety of trades, including plumbing, carpentry and painting. You will also be required to complete a portfolio that evidences your learning, and will need ‘signing off’ by your Technical Trainer/Mentor.
Duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Carrying out the planned tasks and targets in line with training goals
- Acting in accordance with Arcus requirements & policies
- Ensuring you maintain a safe and healthy work environment
- Maintaining high levels of attendance at work and / or training
- Participate in regular reviews when asked to do so
- Setting stretching targets for personal development
Please note that the majority of the learning will take place at the National Training Centre in Stevenage, therefore regular travel into Stevenage (including occasional overnight stays) will be required of the successful colleagues.

What We're Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- GCSEs in English & Maths
- Full UK Driving Licence - As a company van will be provided
- Ideally experience in a retail or fast-paced operational environment
Skills & Attributes
- Proficient with IT and confident using digital systems
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capable of prioritising tasks
- A team player with a customer-first attitude
- Willing to upskill through training and hands-on mentoring
- Physically fit and able to work at heights or in confined spaces
