- Be responsible for Building Regulations compliance across all SGP offices with the ability to travel to each office.
- Lead the compliance and coordination of design-related duties under the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated regulations, including the Building Regulations etc. (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2023.
- Will be responsible for planning, managing, and monitoring the design work to ensure that buildings meet the functional requirements of the Building Regulations throughout the design and construction phases.
- Act as the Principal Designer under Part 2A of the Building Regulations for non HRBs.
- Oversee design decisions and managing the coordination of various disciplines to ensure regulatory compliance, particularly for fire and structural safety.
- Review design documents, specifications, and plans to identify compliance risks and propose corrective actions.

- Lead the development and maintenance of the Golden Thread of information, ensuring robust record-keeping and traceability of decisions.
- Advise clients on their duties under the law and supporting the transition from design to construction in a compliant manner.
- Liaise with colleagues and professional staff at all levels across the practice on different issues and to question and seek clarification where and when required.
- Maintain knowledge and pursue continuous personal development in relation to relevant specialist subject matter, and local, regional and national issues.
- Assist the Partners to consider any future requirements, updated systems or procedures required for the successful delivery of Higher Risk Buildings (HRB) including the Building Safety Regulators Gateway approval process.
- Budget and finance: manage BRPD fees, budgets and resource planning within Workspace Deltek PIM to ensure projects are profitable and delivered within financial constraints.
- Training: keep up to date knowledge with industry standards, detailing and specifications ensuring that all SGP training requirements and events are met and attended.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
