Building Safety Manager
Senior Building Safety Manager
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: Grade D - £45,091 – £53,460 (Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review)
Hours: 36.5 per week
Sponsorship: This role is not sponsored. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without employer sponsorship for the duration of the appointment.
This position will support the Senior Building Manager in ensuring the Council meets its statutory building safety obligations, delivering responsible landlord duties while continuously enhancing the safety of residents, properties, compliance, and stock condition.
As a leader within a professional team, this role is crucial for providing senior management with assurance that building, fire, and statutory compliance requirements are effectively managed through:
- Proactive internal audit and assurance activities
- Monitoring residential stock via site-based inspections and checks
- Maintaining accurate stock data for building safety case information
- Ensuring robust regulatory compliance via positive stakeholder engagement
Your responsibilities will include:
- Line managing Building Safety Officers
- Coordinating with stakeholders to maintain evidence-based assurance programmes
- Devising strategies grounded in accurate data and information
- Ensuring demonstrable, whole-building compliance
- Delivering high-quality asset management services
- Fostering a culture of trust and high performance

About the Role
Purpose: To oversee and improve building safety protocols, ensuring statutory requirements are met while advancing best practice in asset management and responsible landlordship.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a professional team to uphold building, fire, and regulatory compliance across housing stock.
- Implement audit frameworks to guarantee transparency and reliability in assessments.
- Liaise with internal/external stakeholders to foster collaboration on safety initiatives.
- Maintain and analyse accurate data to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Conduct site inspections to verify operational adherence to compliance standards.
- Support the Council’s drive towards excellence in resident protection and risk prevention.

- Strong understanding of UK building regulations and landlord duties.
- Proven experience in audit/assurance roles within public/housing sectors.
- Ability to manage teams effectively and anticipate compliance risks.
- Confidence in informing senior leadership on regulatory matters.
- Commitment to continuous improvement in resident safety and asset integrity.
