Grade H: £37,280 – £40,777 per annum (pay award pending)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 per week

This role is based at our Hawks Green Depot, which is located just 5 minutes drive from Cannock Town Center and the West Midlands Designer Outlet Village. The fantastic National Landscape, Cannock Chase is just 10 minutes drive away.

About The Role

As Building Safety Officer, the post holder is responsible for the effective day to day delivery of building safety compliance with relevant legislation for asbestos management, legionella risk and fire safety for the Housing Team.

Activities will include:

  • Reviewing Asbestos surveys to ensure they meet the defined scope of works
  • Updating our Asbestos Risk Register with any changes
  • Monitoring Legionella flushing and temperature checks
  • Creating an action plan from Fire Risk Assessments
  • Ensuring repairs have been undertaken on fire alarm systems
  • Inspecting works for handovers
  • Undertaking an asbestos reinspection on a Sheltered Scheme
  • Chairing meetings with Contractors
  • Creating a new policy to reflect changes in legislation
  • Collating data to develop Key Performance Indicators that are delivered to Senior Management
  • Checking Invoices to ensure we are paying for services received

About You

You will have significant experience in the building industry working with Asbestos as either an Asbestos surveyor or within the Asbestos management industry, preferably with one of either the P402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings or a P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings qualification. You will also have experience within a social housing environment and preferably have a formal qualification in water hygiene management and/or fire safety within buildings however training can be provided to the right candidate.

You will ensure the Council remains compliant with statutory building safety requirements, managing specialist contractors, interpreting technical information, and driving continuous improvement across our services.

You will be capable of effective communication with people at all levels both externally and within the organisation. You will have excellent IT skills with a proven ability to develop software to improve effective working methods and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages in your day to day work. You will be able to manage your own workload effectively and have a passion for getting things right first time.
