Northeast Region – Leading Build Main Contractor

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Building Services Manager to join a major build contractor, providing essential support across their portfolio of projects.

This role involves working with a broad range of new build projects (up to £50m+ in value), across both public and private sectors in the Northeast region.

As part of a growing specialist team, you will play a key role in managing and delivering building services support through both the pre-construction stage and live projects, covering technical design, coordination, and handover activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-construction stage engagement:

    • Provide critical input into the design phase and technical specifications of projects.
    • Act as a technical adviser on mechanical and electrical aspects.
  • Project coordination:

    • Manage day-to-day coordination of building services subcontractors, including:
      • Handling technical submissions
      • Managing design changes and specification updates
      • Proactively addressing queries and issues

  • Meeting facilitation:

    • Review progress for works associated with build and M&E subcontractors.
    • Chair meetings as needed to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Cross-discipline coordination:

    • Oversee and liaise across multiple services such as:
      • Utilities
      • Sprinklers
      • M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) installation
      • PV (Photovoltaics)
      • Security
      • CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) packages
  • Project handover and finalisation:

    • Manage processes through to client handover.
    • Oversee commissioning and Operation & Maintenance (OM) manual documentation.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold a qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with experience at Project Engineer level or equivalent.
  • Preference for candidates with prior experience as a Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) coordinator/manager in construction/contractor roles.

  • Multidisciplinary coordination: Ability to manage both mechanical and electrical disciplines within commercial build projects.
  • Effective communication: Comfortable interacting with all levels of staff, from tradespeople to senior management.
  • Proactivity: Strong anticipation skills – spot emerging issues before they escalate into major problems.
  • Technical adaptability: Well-rounded IT skills for contract management and project documentation.

Travel Expectation

  • Must hold a Full UK driving licence (daily travel across the Northeast region required).
