Building Services Office Lead

About the Role

At AtkinsRéalis, we are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Building Services Lead to help establish, shape, and grow our Building Services capability in the Leeds office and the Yorkshire region.

This is a key leadership role focused on:

  • Building a strong local team
  • Developing our mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering capability
  • Strengthening our market presence
  • Supporting the delivery of high-quality multidisciplinary projects across the region

Our Building Services teams play a crucial role in creating safe, sustainable, resilient, and efficient buildings and infrastructure. We work collaboratively with clients and design teams to deliver practical, innovative, and technically robust solutions.

As a fully integrated multidisciplinary practice, you will collaborate with:

  • Architects
  • Civil and structural engineers
  • Project managers
  • Cost consultants
  • Environmental specialists
  • Other engineering disciplines

Within the Leeds office and Yorkshire region business, our teams support projects across sectors including:

  • Commercial
  • Education
  • Defence
  • Energy
  • Healthcare
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Transport
  • Local government

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership in:
    • Establishing and growing the Yorkshire region Building Services team
    • Supporting recruitment, team development, work winning, technical excellence, and high-quality project delivery
  • Help build a sustainable local Building Services portfolio by:
    • Engaging with clients
    • Identifying opportunities
    • Developing long-term relationships across the Leeds office and Yorkshire region

Project Coordination

  • Lead and coordinate building services engineering input across all project stages, ensuring solutions are:
    • Integrated
    • Coordinated
    • Buildable
    • Aligned with client requirements
  • Take responsibility for successful project delivery, including:
    • Scope definition
    • Technical quality
    • Programme management
    • Resource planning
    • Commercial performance
    • Risk management
    • Client satisfaction

Team Development

  • Act as a visible leader for Building Services in Leeds office and Yorkshire region, helping to:
    • Shape the team’s direction and culture
    • Manage workload, recruitment priorities, and contributions to wider regional/national practice
  • Support the set-up and ongoing management of the team, including:
    • Staff development and mentoring
    • Resource and workload planning
    • Financial performance
    • Collaboration with established Building Services teams across the region

  • Contribute to compelling bids, proposals, and technical responses by:
    • Defining robust engineering approaches

Technical Review

  • Provide technical leadership and review of:
    • Mechanical, electrical, and public health design deliverables
    • Ensure outputs align with standards, scope, programme, and budget

About You

Qualifications & Certification

  • Degreed (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status

Professional Experience

  • Demonstrable track record of:
    • Leading building services engineering commissions
    • Developing client relationships
    • Contributing to growing or establishing teams in Yorkshire region/comparable regional markets

Technical Competence

  • Strong expertise in mechanical, electrical, and/or public health building services design
  • Ability to understand interfaces across all MEP disciplines and multidisciplinary design teams

Bid & Commercial Experience

  • Experience preparing:
    • Successful bids, tenders, fee proposals, and technical submissions
  • Strong commercial awareness with results-oriented mindset

Communication & Collaboration

  • Confidence engaging with:
    • Clients, stakeholders
    • Senior management
    • Project teams
    • Supply chain partners

Leadership & Entrepreneurship

  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with:
    • Confidence to build a team from early stages
    • Ability to create momentum locally
    • Strong connections with regional/national colleagues

Project Coordination Experience

  • Direct experience leading and coordinating building services design packages, including:
    • Technical quality oversight
    • Design integration
    • Risk management
    • Delivery performance

Digital & BIM Awareness

  • Familiarity with digital design and BIM processes, including:
    • Collaboration in model-based environments (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, or equivalents)
