Senior Electrical Building Services Design Engineer – Bristol Office

Location: Flexible/Hybrid (Bristol or Cardiff office) Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent Hours: 37.5 per week, flexible (core hours: Monday–Friday, 10:00am–4:00pm)

Anderson Parslow is an independent Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) building services consultancy based in Bristol and Cardiff, operating across the UK. We specialise in designing and coordinating projects from conception to completion, including Commercial, Leisure, Residential, Retail, Healthcare, Education, Industrial, and Infrastructure.


About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Building Services Design Engineer to join our Building Services Engineering design team in Bristol, reporting to the Director. The successful candidate will:

  • Lead electrical design projects across the UK’s construction and infrastructure sectors.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, contributing to team growth and skills progression.
  • Drive innovation and sustainability initiatives while delivering high-quality, compliant electrical solutions.
  • Provide training and mentorship, ensuring our team evolves with your career ambitions within Anderson Parslow.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, your key duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Designing electrical systems for diverse project types (commercial, leisure, residential, etc.).
  • Managing client relationships and contributing to business development.
  • Leading multidisciplinary collaboration, liaising with clients, contractors, and other consultants to define project requirements.
  • Providing technical leadership, resolving engineering challenges, and ensuring compliance with UK/EU/ISO standards.
  • Managing design deliverables—electrical drawings, documentation, and specifications—while adhering to project programmes and budgets.
  • Ensuring compliance—reviewing designs, managing CDM risk analyses, and verifying adherence to 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
  • **undertaking cost management, feasibility studies, site surveys, and bid preparations.
  • Mentoring junior engineers, fostering professional growth.
  • Supporting business expansion through high-quality electrical design services.

Key Requirements

Education & Professional Status

  • Preferred: Degree/HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline. (Qualification should ideally meet CEng/IEng eligibility criteria.)
  • Membership of a Professional Institution: IET, CIBSE, or equivalent.
  • Professional Registration: Chartered (CEng), Incorporated (IEng), or derivatives (MA, AMI) Engineer (preferred), or actively pursuing registration.

Technical Skills

  • Specialist expertise in:
    • Electrical supply and distribution systems
    • Internal/external lighting design
    • Load assessments & standby generation (UPS systems)
    • Earthing and bonding
  • Familiarity with:
    • Software: AutoCAD, MicroStation (Bentley), Revit, Dialux, Relux, Hevacomp, Amtech, ElectricalOM, NavisWorks.
    • Standards: BS, European, and ISO electrical standards.
    • RIBA & BSRIA project structures.
    • CDM (Construction Design and Management) and CSM (Construction (Design and Management) Regulations risks and hazards.

Soft Skills & Attributes

  • Strong leadership—ability to mentor juniors and drive team performance.
  • Excellence in communication (technical and client-facing).
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Commercial awareness, particularly in electrical system optimisation (lighting, LV distribution, security, etc.).
  • Proactive problem-solving with an interest in sustainable, low-carbon solutions.
  • Resourceful organisation—balancing complex projects with tight deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence (competent driving encouraged).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and sector-specific software.
