Ready to take the next step in your career? Join our award-winning Building Structures team in Cardiff & Swansea and help deliver high-impact projects across the UK and beyond. We're looking to appoint a Structural Engineer to support the continued growth of our Birmingham Building Structures team. You'll be working in a variety of sectors, with technically challenging projects that are shaping the way people live and work today.
Role
You'll play a key role in delivering projects within our Buildings & Places practice, taking responsibility for both design and project delivery across a varied client base. Our work is underpinned by a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability, ethics, and safety, and you'll be central to embedding these principles in everything you do. You will contribute to the design and delivery of projects while developing your technical expertise and supporting collaborative team outcomes. You'll:
- Apply engineering knowledge across a range of building structures projects.
- Support project delivery from concept through to detailed design.
- Contribute to innovative and sustainable design solutions.
- Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders on live projects.
Your role
As a Structural Engineer, You Will
- Apply technical skills to a wide range of building structures and design scenarios.
- Develop conceptual solutions through to detailed design stages.
- Assist in delivering projects within defined programme and cost parameters.
- Contribute to the multi-disciplinary team approach on projects.
- Undertake research, data collection, and presentation of findings.
- Present results to clients under supervision of a lead designer.
- Represent AtkinsRéalis at site visits and design team meetings.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance procedures.
- Work in accordance with BIM standards, Digital Plan of Work, and BIM Execution Plans.
- Support and mentor junior or less experienced team members.
- Maintain and develop a broad technical skillset.
- Demonstrate proactive commitment to self-development.

About You
You'll bring a strong technical foundation along with a proactive and collaborative approach:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Graduate Member of a relevant professional body (IStructE or ICE).
- Working towards, and be close to achieving Chartered status.
- Experience designing with traditional materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry) to Eurocodes.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software (e.g. Robot, Revit – desirable).
- Willingness to learn and adopt new tools and technologies.
- Interest in digital engineering, automation, and parametric design.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Flexible attitude to work type and level of responsibility.
- Curious mindset and enthusiasm for collaboration and idea-sharing.
- Willingness to travel and work across different offices when required.

Security clearance
This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
