Building Surveyor
Building Surveyor – Falmouth Exeter Plus
About the Role
We’re seeking a proactive and experienced Building Surveyor to join our Estates team at Falmouth Exeter Plus—an exciting opportunity to deliver a range of projects that enhance facilities for our partner universities and their students.
As Building Surveyor, you’ll oversee the surveying, planning, coordination, and delivery of projects—from strategic lifecycle works to major building renovations—ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. You’ll manage projects from conception to completion, collaborating with stakeholders, contractors, and teams to minimise disruption while achieving optimal outcomes.
Reporting to the Head of Asset Management, you’ll bring a technical yet collaborative approach, blending detailed project management with strong stakeholder relationships.Supported by an expert estates team, you’ll take ownership of your workload while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of estates projects, including strategic maintenance and major building works.
- Oversee contract management, contractor performance, and health & safety compliance (including CDM regulations).
- Ensure mitigated disruption to campus operations while maintaining disciplinary and project-driven delivery.
- Produce detailed project documentation, reports, and record-keeping to support decision-making and strategic investment.
- Work closely with internal teams, external contractors, and university partners to align projects with institutional goals.
- Travel between Falmouth, Penryn, and Truro campuses to monitor progress and implement best practice.

Requirements & Experience
Essential Criteria
- Proven 5+ years’ experience as a Building Surveyor, preferably within estates management or construction.
- Strong understanding of CDM regulations, health & safety protocols, and building codes.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and customer service skills with a results-driven mindset.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with experience in preparing project documentation, reports, and financial justifications.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, balancing timelines, budgets, and risk management.
Preferred Skills
- Membership of RICS (or another relevant professional body) would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) and asset management software.
- Experience working in a university or higher education environments (beneficial but not mandatory).
