Building Surveyor
Job Title: Graduate Surveyor / Surveyor / Senior Surveyor Department: Building Consultancy Location: Manchester office, hybrid and flexible working available
The LSH Manchester office is a leading real estate consultancy with Building Consultancy being a key service line. We advise our clients on the full spectrum of building surveying services including, pre-acquisition advice, dilapidations, reinstatement cost assessments, defect advice, together with contract administration, employer’s agent and project management services, party wall and fire reinstatement valuations.
Our Building Consultancy team are currently delivering a variety of project management and contract administration instructions across numerous sectors, with project values ranging from minor works up to complex multi-million pound reconfiguration and refurbishment schemes.
We are also continuously undertaking a range of professional instructions including dilapidations, technical due diligence acquisition surveys, schedules of condition, PPM’s, feasibility studies and party walls. The clients include owners and occupiers and encompass a range of property types with live instructions within the retail, office, leisure, residential and industrial sectors.
A career as a commercial Building Surveyor is extremely diverse and rewarding, allowing you to have a direct impact on your clients business. This comes in many forms, including:- Doing a survey before a business takes a lease on a building, making sure that they know what liability they are taking on and advising on how this can be minimised. Valuing the cost of re-building an office, to make sure that the owner has sufficient insurance cover. Project managing a refurbishment for a Pension Fund provider on an estate that they own, making sure they can quickly re-let it and keep increasing the value of their pension fund. Protecting a tenant when they are about to leave a building, ensuring that their Landlord can’t fleece them for repair and reinstatement costs. Making sure a new build hotel is built to the specification it should be for the owner and that no short cuts are taken by the contractor.

This opportunity:
If successful the position will see you working within our growing Building Consultancy team, alongside the Head of Building Consultancy in Manchester. It will give you the opportunity to work closely with the team on a number of key commercial real estate projects that the business has been instructed on.
At the Graduate level, you will be working closely with our senior Associate Directors and Directors with a designated APC mentor to help you achieve chartered status. As part of this you will also work on gaining new skills and gain exposure to working on large scale commercial projects.
At the Surveyor level the main aim is to work on enhancing your skills as a Building Surveyor by working on more complex matters in conjunction with our Associate Directors and Directors, taking responsibility for your own projects and pieces of work and gaining client exposure at the earliest possible point so that you can start taking on your own client responsibilities and relationships.

At the Senior Surveyor level the goal will be to continue working on your skills as a Building Surveyor once again with mentorship from our Directors and Associate Directors in the business. However by this point there is an expectation that you will already be working in a client facing role and taking responsibilities for more complex matters. In turn, LSH will begin helping you in your progression towards Associate Director by moving towards further exposure on specialist and complex Building Surveying matters and by gaining the business development skills to win your own clients and develop your own pipeline of work.
This opportunity exists for a:- A chartered Building Surveyor, looking to work with one of the country’s leading commercial property consultancies. A Graduate Surveyor with at least three years experience or close to completing their APC that wants to work with a leading commercial property consultancy who can help them in achieving chartered status.
